Events
As part of the mission and vision of the Authority, we have developed (and will develop) events that speak to the history of sport and highlight the contributions of Black athletes and professionals to the success of sports around the world. We will also participate in events created by others that are consistent with our goal of leveling the playing field in sports for Black businesses, creating a more nurturing environment more conducive to long-term success for our young people, and expanding the interest and competency of our young people beyond playing the game to the real business of sports.
The first event we have developed is the John Wooten Leadership Award. Named in honor of John Wooten, affectionately referred to as the “Godfather”, the purpose of the event is to highlight the contributions John has made during his 50 year involvement with the game of professional football including, but not limited to, his efforts to promote diversity and equality of job opportunity in the coaching, front office and scouting staffs of NFL teams as Chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance.
